The outsiders is an extended written text about 2 gangs, "the greasers" and "the socs" the socs are from the west side which is a very rich area and the greasers come from the east side which is the very poor are. The greasers and the socs have always hated each other and not cared for each other as well as tried to kill each other. Since the socs are the rich ones, they tend to have lots of cars and weapons, the socs like watch and then jump the greasers when they are walking home and they would threaten them as well and give them a brutal beating. The greasers always stayed on the east side, but the socs would come to the east side territory to beat them rather than staying on their sod of town.
I can relate to this because, in the 21st century these days, anyone in the word can turn the TV on for the news, and almost every time there is something gang related happening somewhere in the word, even if it happens to be the bloods and crips. Since I'm growing up with this it has become a normal part of everyday life for me in this world and the same with a lot of other people. In my opinion gangs are stupid. The one thing that people don't know these days is the fact that gangs were originally made to protect their neighborhoods, not to start fights. Now days each gang has its own set of symbols and terms to distinguish itself from other gangs and to identify allies and enemies. This can bee seen when one of the greasers says “They grew up on the outside of society. They weren't looking for a fight. They were looking to belong. In the movie barbershop 2 when two regular kids are threatened to join a gang and do dangerous missions causing neighborhood chaos and reports on the news.
Another thing that caught my attention in the text was the brotherhood bond between Pony Boy, Soda Pop, and Darry Curtis. With having no parents around Darry was under pressure of being the overprotective and mature oldest sibling. Pony Boy was always corrected for his decisions and mistakes while Pony Boy wanted to be free and live his own life, Darry wanted him to have a safe stable and simple life. Soda Pop having the motherly look, being easy on the poor Pony Boy and having to correct Darry is needed. However after seeing how hard Darry was committed to saving Pony Boys life to risk his own, Pony Boy learned that the oldest brother loved him dearly and only wanted him to be safe and live life happily, even if it meant not doing what Pony wanted. Even if Darry is hard and strong on the younger brother's he still cares about their life's. This is shown when Darry sets it straight with Pony Boy by saying "Listen, with your brains and grades, you could get a scholarship, and we could put you through college, ain't that right, Soda? But you're livin' in a vacuum, Pony, and you're gonna have to cut it out. You just don't stop living because you lose somebody. I thought you knew that. And anytime you don't like the way I'm running things around here, you can just get out, ALRIGHT?". This can also be shown in the film "Brother Bear" when Sitka risks his own life saving his younger brothers from a wild bear, by splitting the ice and pulling the bear away from his brothers to save them. Even after a hard day of them misbehaving he still puts them first before himself.
I recommend this book because it has a lot of meaning and and all the meaning towards society and peoples feelings

Title: Coach Carter

Coach Carter is a powerful film about a high school basketball team called the 'Richmond Oilers' the school is in a very low decile area where most high school students are getting themselves into bad situations. The Richmond Oilers get a new coach, called Ken carter. Ken carter originally was a student at Richmond who holds many basketball records. Ken carter became the coach so he could enrich the lives of these players so they could do something with their lives, but this all gets ruined when the players end up failing all their classes even though the oilers were undefeated in their new season. Which is when coach ken carter takes a stand and locks the players out of the gym until the players reach a 2.3 gpa. This then causes chaos in the Richmond community and Coach ken carter gets sent to court, but in this case he takes his first loss fot the team.
I thought that coach ken carter was the most inspirational character in the film. At the beginning of the film he was mean and selfish, as well as he was quite stubborn. But towards the end he becomes more and more caring, the reason he was doing it, was to get the best out of the team and get all of their full abilities to arise., now I realise that he's only coaching this team to make a change in young teenagers lives to keep these teenagers out of prison. When the team first meet the coach they had no respect for him. They were careless and furious towards him because they didnt understand what he's doing for them with tike and effort. They only cared about his skin colour and his knowledge of the sport. I think a lot of people can relate to coach ken carter because he's a man who's grown up in a bad community with bad experiences. So he's making a change to the world. There are a lot of people these days who can make simple differences in the world and all they need to do is love eachother not hate eachother. This world is full of hate today, it doesn't matter what starts it but all that matters is how it ends and what it will destroy in its Path, coach carter is so inspirational, he shows that it doesn't matter what community or what race you are from, he shows that all that matters is the live that we give eachother.
In conclusion, I think coach carter is a powerful and breathtaking film, it has a lot of strong messages on the movie which would head towards teens and their lives. It also helps teens get there heads straight for all the good things that can happen to you through sports

Rates of Reaction
Experiment 1
Investigating the effect of temperature on reaction rateEquipment
- A beaker, conical flask
- Measuring cylinder
- Stopwatch
- Black cross on paper
- water bath
- thermometer
- 0.1mol/L sodium thiosulfate
- 1.0 mol/L hydrocloric acid
Method
- Put the X paper on the bench mat,and put the conical flask on top of the paper
- Measure 50mL of sodium thiosulfate solution and put it in the beaker
- Record the temperature of the sodium thiosulfate
- Measure 5mL of HCL and pour into the conical flask
- Pour the sodium thiosulfate into the conical flask, start the stopwatch and swirl the flask. Time how long it takes for the cross to disappear when viewed from above (i.e. look down the mouth of the conical flask)
- Wash out the flask thoroughly
- Repeat the experiment, using a water bath to heat the sodium thiosulfate to 30 degrees then 40 degrees and finally 50 degrees. Keep the volume of the acid the same each time
Room temp - 27sec
30 degrees - 8sec
40 degree - 7sec
50 degrees -5 sec
Conclusion:
A chemical reaction is when two reactant particles collide.
They must collide with enough force and in the correct orientation.
As I increased the temperature, the reactants gained more kinetic energy and moved faster.
The faster they move, the higher the chance of a successful collision.
This means the rate of reaction will increase.
Experiment 2
Investigating the effect of concentration effects the reaction rate
Aim:
I want to investigate how concentration effects the reaction rate.
Equipment
- Conical Flask
- Beaker
- Measuring Cylinder
- Stopwatch
- Waterbath
- Paper with a black cross "X"
- Thermometer
- 0.1mol/L Sodium Thiosulfate
- 2.0mol/L Hydrochloric Acid
Method
- Put the piece of paper with the X on the bench and put the conical flask on it.
- Measure 10mL of Sodium Thiosulfate and put it into the conical flask.
- Measure 40mL of Water and put it into the conical flask. Swirl to mix.
- Measure 5mL of HCl.
- Pour the HCl into the conical flask, start the timer and swirl the flask.
- Stop timing when the you can't see the cross on the paper.
- Wash out the flask thoroughly.
- Repeat experiment 20mL of Sodium Thiosulfate and 30mL of Water.
- Repeat experiment 30mL of Sodium Thiosulfate and 20mL of Water.
- Repeat experiment 40mL of Sodium Thiosulfate and 10mL of Water.
- Repeat experiment 50mL of Sodium Thiosulfate and 0mL Water.
10mL Thiosulfate/40mL Water took 360sec for the X to disappear.
20mL Thiosulfate/30mL Water took 100sec for the X to disappear.
30mL Thiosulfate/20mL Water took 64sec for the X to disappear.
40mL Thiosulfate/10mL Water took 47sec for the X to disappear.
50mL Thiosulfate/0mL Water took 30sec for the X to disappear.

Aim - I want to investigate how changing the surface area effects the reaction rate
Equipment:

As I increased the surface area of the reactants, there were more reactant particles that were able to react. The more particles, the higher the chance of a successful collision.
This means the rate of reaction will increase.

Aim - I want to investigate how adding a catalyst will effect the reaction rate
Equipment
20mL Thiosulfate/30mL Water took 100sec for the X to disappear.
30mL Thiosulfate/20mL Water took 64sec for the X to disappear.
40mL Thiosulfate/10mL Water took 47sec for the X to disappear.
50mL Thiosulfate/0mL Water took 30sec for the X to disappear.
Experiment 3
Investigating the effect of surface area on reaction rate
Aim - I want to investigate how changing the surface area effects the reaction rate
Equipment:
- Boiling tube
- Calcium carbonate (marble chips)
- Calcium carbonate powder
- 1.0mol/L Hydrochloric acid
- Measuring cylinder
- Spatula
- Test tube tongs
Method:
- Measure 2mL of hydrochloric acid and pour it into a boiling tube
- using the tongs to hold the boiling test tube over the sink, add a pea-sized amount of Calcium Carbonate powder.
- Repeat experiment instead using the same amount of marble chips rather than the powder
Results:
When I added the powder, there was vigorous fizzing.
When I repeated the experiment with the chips, it bubbled.
When I repeated the experiment with the chips, it bubbled.

- Copper metal powder
- 1.0mol/L Hydrochloric acid
- Measuring cylinder
- Spatula
Method
- Put a piece of zinc into test tube 1 and test tube 3
- Put a small amount of copper powder into test tube 2 and test tube 3
- Add 5mL of acid to each test tube
Results
Test tube 3 bubbles and fizzed the most because the catalyst lowered the activation energy.
Conclusion:
A chemical reaction is when two reactant particles collide.
They must collide with enough force and in the correct orientation.
A catalyst is a chemical that itself is not used in the reaction, however it lowers the Activation Energy - the amount of energy required for a successful collision.
If less energy is needed, then more particles will have the required energy to react, therefore the reaction rate will increase

Projectile motion/Gravity work
Projectile motion..
A projectile Is anything that flies through the air
Projectile motion is the way the projectile moves through the air
What are the projectiles we have in sport?
Throwing a Basketball
Shooting a Netball
Kneeling - it was harder because it takes more force for the ball to reach your partner
Standing - it was easier because you were able to use force summation
If the ball got more height it would reach your partner better.
Gravity
What does gravity actually do?
Gravity is what brings an object back down and pulls it to the centre of the earth
The rougher something is the more air resistance it has
Which object has the most air resistance? basketball/netball/football
Basketball - basketball has the most surface area and its heavier which means that it will have the most air resistance
To throw a basketball as far as you can you would want to use your momentum and force summation to get the most power and force out of your pass as possible. A run up would also be another great way to get the force and the most power out of a long distance pass.
